[start discussion]
What do you think of the Hip Hop scene in Dunedin?

I think it's cool, man. There are heaps of crews here (Imc, Said, Bonafide RTG). The fact Shan has been here provides a huge sense of pride and inspiration for myself and others, I'm sure.

Any plans to take things out of Dunedin?

My plan for the meantime is to collaborate outside of Dunedin as much as possible whilst still remaining here. There is so much going on outside of duds, that you really have to be there to take advantage of networking opportunities, producers etc. However if you're persistent enough and put yourself out there, I believe you can still achieve a lot. The track from Miso on the Mixtape is testament to that.

What's in store for the next few months?

Hopefully I'll be busy selling and receiving orders for the Dudstown winter 08 collection. And working on the next Dudstown release, 'The Bootleg Mixtape Vol. 2' feat. myself , Max Dad E and Esdee amongst various, yet-to-be-confirmed guest-spots (ain't giving too much away). At this stage I've been building up capital to purchase new goodies to improve the level of production for Dudstown even further. I just added a new mixer, laptop, Serato and hope to replace the main computer, get new software and a compressor so its all about hustlin' hard.

What advice would you give to any young aspiring rapper in Dunedin?

Figure out what you want out of it. IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE FUN, but if you decide you want to start to record and release music, it's going to change things. If your aim is to improve, be a perfectionist. Study and learn from those who are better than you. A great way to improve your skills is to hear your rapping recorded and played back, even if it's just a shitty tape deck. If you decide you want to step up, get a job. Save them pennys and get your own computer. Most of the MCs I know have access to a means of recording.

[MC Beau's] 'Suits, Beats and Block Letter Tees' is being hed at [The Backstage] on Saturday, 8th September with guests Mr J, Max Dad E and Esdee Emerald with the Dudstown Clothing Line catwalk at midnight.
