This years Battle of the Bands was a magnificent success, with some very talented bands battling it out for the top prize of $1,000, plus $500 Radio One advertising, and the right to play at Re-Orientation 2008 and Orientation 2009.
The competition was very tough, there were four heats held over two weeks with eight bands playing each night. Nine bands made it through to the final where they had 15 minutes to impress the three judges, Robert Milne (dunedinmusic.com), Morgan Jarvis (Manager Real Groovy), and Dave Ager (host of ‘The Local’ on Radio One). The judges scored the bands in 5 categories (stage presence, crowd appreciation, musical/technical ability, originality, and X factor).
“The bands at the final were very impressive and show that talent keeps pouring out of the University. Their energy and professionalism was fantastic and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to them in the future.” Laura Cole, OUSA Events Assistant Manager.
