Apologies for the long delay in communication, i hope you are all well and haven't been pining for Hanformation updates too much. Suffice to say we are back, with LOTS of exciting news and rearing to go!
So far, 2008 has been an exciting year for Tom and I. In March we travelled down to our old stomping ground Dunedin to record an e.p with the ever effervescent Dale Cotton. We had 4 days to record 5 tracks with a band that had never played together, a tricky feat, but the fates must have been smiling on us because the resulting 5 tracks are sounding very special and we are like proud mother hens clucking over them until the day we get to share them with YOU! We hope to have the e.p out in September, and a listening lolly it shall be! We are so lucky to know the many amazingly talented and generous musicians who helped us out - the e.p features not only Tom and myself but the lovely ladies from Haunted Love on bv's and saw(!), Darren Stedman on drums and Dale himself on all sorts of things! Huge thanks to Dale, Tash and Tane for putting up with another 4 days of crazy musicians invading their home :-)
Things are looking bright on the band front for us also. We have recently become aquainted with a very clever lady, Jen Cloher of Jen Cloher And The Endless Sea. An Aussie artist, the ever humble Jen was in fact nominated for an Aria for her first LP Dead Wood Falls. Currently based in Auckland, Jen has been jamming with us and we are just delighted to announce the imminent unveiling of our new band, as yet un-named. Our lady collaboration (with guest man Tom of course!) is going to play a selection of Jen Cloher, Hannah Curwood and (as yet undiscovered talent) Rebekah Davies' songs, and I for one am VERY VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT! Think layers of lady people! Our first gig has been booked at The Wine Cellar on Wednesday July 23rd so please, mark your diaries!
Jen is heading home to Melbourne in late august to record her second LP. We are honoured to have been asked to guest on the recordings and are looking forward to a trip to Melbs to play some shows, do some recording and no doubt meet a whole pile of clever people. Pipeline plans include a tour of australia with Jen Cloher And The Endless Sea, huzzah! Check out Jen's stuff at [http://www.myspace.com/jencloherandtheendlesssea ]
We count ourselves extremely fortunate also to be opening for Paul Mclaney (formerly of Gramsci) and Kirsten Morrell (from Goldenhorse) this weekend. These 2 are just so bloody incredible and we are once again honoured to have been asked to play with them. The first show is at the Masonic Tavern in Devonport on Friday June 20 and the second at the Ponsonby Cruising Club, Westhaven Marina. These will be intimate shows so get in quick if you'd like to come. Tickets are available at [undertherader.co.nz ]and from Real Groovy, we'd love to see you there.
Lastly, a plug for my new radio show Heavy Petting. Every Saturday at 10.30 you can tune into [www.95bfm.com] to hear me expound on my animal behaviour theories, answer questions from listeners and generally have a good laugh with comedian co-host Jaime Bowen. You can also email or txt me questions if you'd like to hear me go on a bit.
