Dunedinmusic.com's 7th Birthday!

Dunedinmusic.com is celebrating its seventh birthday this year and we're throwing a huge party!

On Saturday September 1st at Refuel, 24 live acts will come together to mark the occasion. The event will kick off at 2pm with an all-ages show, a get-together dinner for musicians and crew around 6pm and an R18 show from 7pm onwards.

This year, Dunedinmusic.com has teamed up with the AMPED Music Project for our all-ages event. The young bands in the project will be performing in the all-ages show, supported by some excellent 'mentor' bands.

Our line-up for this year's performances includes: John George MacLeod's Melon Platoon, The Good Chaps, Crisis, Outright, This Way Up, Thoughtful and the Mighty Heart, Julian Temple, The Fu King, The Prophet Hens, Heka, Kahu, Martin Phillipps, Cult Disney, Ded Sparrows, Males, Two Cartoons, The Great Jali, Astro Children, Hunting Bears, MANTHYNG, A Distant City, Sunley Band, Ink Mathematics, Julian Temple and Ignite The Helix.

Scott Muir from Dunedinmusic.com comments: "Seven years and still going strong. It's really gratifying to see what we have managed to achieve in this time. The vitality that the local musicscene has now is nothing short of amazing. There are several record labels operating, including Independent Records, Fishrider Records, Proxy Music, Monkey Killer Records, Dunedinmusic.com, and these, along with the AMPED Music Project, the team at The Attic and several other local businesses are growing the Dunedin music scene. It's fertile to say the least. Our own business has not only embraced the digital music world, but we are actively developing new partnerships all across the world in this arena."

In the spirit of Dunedin's DIY music culture, Otago University Music Department students along with music industry stalwart Steven Kilroy, and Dave and Tom from *INK have teamed up to screen-print t-shirts at the show for all the bands to have some home grown merchandise available. Along with this, local support is being provided by Live Sound Engineering, Southern Lights, Hintons Fruit and Produce, Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust, Poppas Pizzas, Circadian Rhythm Cafe, *INK, and Radio One 91FM

This event is truly a collaborative effort by the many, many people involved in coming together to celebrate the extraordinary musical talent that resides here in Dunedin. The Dunedinmusic.com Birthday Party has reached legendary status over the years featuring some of Dunedin's hottest local musicians. Entry is FREE so come along and celebrate with us!
