Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle
Saturday 29 September 2012, 7:30 pm at Knox Church
The City of Dunedin Choir are pleased to present Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.
Rossini, the 19th century Italian composer, was known for his sense of humour. So it is that his “Petite Messe Solennelle” is neither little, nor solemn. Although of a sacred nature, it is unmistakably operatic in style, abounding in memorable tunes and rhythmic vitality. It is an elegant and refined work.
The soloists are soprano Emma Fraser, mezzo-soprano Amanda Cole, tenor Matthew Wilson, and bass Julien Van Mellaerts. Accompaniment is by pianists John Van Buskirk and Sandra Crawshaw, and organist Simon Mace. The conductor is David Burchell.
