deleting gig posters

Postby dickface on Mon Sep 14, 2009 6:52 pm

wow guys i sure am glad you keep doing this because god knows my 28.8kbps connection just can't handle all those web sized jpegs!!
oh no wait, everyone in the world has at least semi-fast internet now. and it's really really annoying that you still keep this archaic rule.
why?
p.s. i do like it that i'm allowed to write real big and in bold italics though lol

Hey Dickface,

Our rule is no gig posters for upcoming gigs. We're running a business here and it costs us money. We sell advertising. The advertising is valueless if we give advertising away. Pretty simple. And this has been enunciated before, a number of times.

so why don't you let people transfer you a couple dollars to have an image up for a while? or delete entire threads about upcoming gigs? afaik you don't charge for the gig guide thing on the side. this makes no sense to me.

We drew a line at the images - we think it's pretty stupid trying to charge for a textual gig guide.
But yeah, if you'd be keen on a minimal price system for posters in forum threads, we could definitely look into it. The thing to consider is how much of our time (and we all have families and jobs outside this one, that essentially pay for what we do here) would be spent administering that versus how much we'd make back. But, seriously, you don't understand us not wanting to devalue the advertising sales?

i understand that, totally, i just don't really see how it's doing that. i mean, call me blind but the only ads i ever seem to see on here are the tiny google ads down the bottom left. do you have a capacity for advertising gigs that's more advanced than the gig guide?

yes. If you're interested, sales@dunedinmusic.com. We're in the middle of reorganising the ratecard, but basically we've done a deal for local musicians: get the 160x160 top right column spot for half price. Most of the ads we sell don't appear in the forum section of the site.
Honestly, this is one policy I don't expect to change.
