Press Release -Fringe Folk @ The Fringe Festival
Fringe Folk - Showcasing contemporary folk-laced music and performers at the
2009 Dunedin Fringe Festival.
The Fortune Theatre songwriters concert features Dunedin artists Delgirl and The Tomato Plants,
two bands who skirt the fringes of contemporary New Zealand folk music, weaving tales of the everyday
into music from the heartland. You'll hear soaring harmonies and vocals, along with guitars, double
bass, banjo and multiple ukuleles. Joining them will be the iconic Dunedin poet Gaylene.
This talented group of women weaves tight harmonies around the double bass, guitar, banjo, ukulele
and percussion. Singing songs about love, murder, lonesome livestock and road rage, Delgirl have
wowed audiences nationwide and recently won the Tui Folk Album of the Year.
Delgirl are Deirdre Newall, Erin Morton and Lynn Vare.
