Simon Kerr and The Acoustic Junkies

A new and inspired sound on the Dunedin Music Scene, playing all original roots based reggae, folk and world music, they are Simon Kerr (Guitar, vocals), Gary Moss (Bass), and Samdrub Dawa (Drums).

Simon writes the songs. Simon's observations of life are wide ranging, sharpened by reason and empowered by passion, from the personal to the political, from the philosophic to the humorous (Ode to Slot Cars!). Simon plays 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars and has performed extensively around Canterbury and Otago in a solo career over the last six years. He has been interviewed and his music played on Christchurch and Dunedin radio and has performed on Television. He presented a solo show in the 2006 Dunedin Fringe Festival called "Goodbye Voyager", featuring both music and visual images from video clips to slideshows.

The Acoustic Junkies were created in 2006 when Simon was joined by Gary and Samdrub. Gary learnt his craft in London with Rob Burns, and has played with a number of singer songwriters and bands since arriving in New Zealand five years ago, and quickly gained a reputation for quality bass work. He was soon joined by the skillful and eclectic drummer, Samdrub, a music student at Otago. Samdrub is in high demand around the city for his musicianship.

The band can play the gentlest ballad with great sensitivity, or thrash out a tune with focused intensity, and can get people dancing to a laid back reggae groove.

They released their debut Album 'Voyager' this year with shows at 12 Below, Dunedin and The Harbour Light in Christchurch. See DMC STORE for clips. Then just buy one! You will not regret it.
