Choral Masterpieces

27/10/2013 5:00 pm $20-$50
Dunedin Town Hall

Choral Masterpieces sees City Choir Dunedin in party mood as they celebrate the 150th anniversary in a gala concert. This concert will be a triumphant event - a concert of a very large choir; a large orchestra: the Southern Sinfonia; two stunning international soloists and a repertoire of some of the world's greatest and most loved and popular choral music.

Directed by David Burchell, Choral Masterpieces will include solo contributions from sparkling diva Helen Medlyn, mezzo-soprano, and Dunedin-born, internationally-renowned Martin Snell, bass.

The programme consists of highlights from the symphonic choral repertoire - oratorio, church music and opera - some familiar, and some less so; and includes extracts from Bach 'Christmas Oratorio', Bizet 'Carmen', Elgar 'Dream of Gerontius', Fauré 'Requiem', Handel 'Messiah', Haydn 'Creation', Mendelssohn 'Elijah', Mozart 'Requiem', Ritchie 'From the Southern Marches' and Wagner 'Tannhäuser'.
